Come join interactive discussions as we open up conversations around dementia and the experiences of working caregivers!
The Working Caregiver
While many companies meet the needs of working moms and dads, "working caregivers" hasn't quite entered the office vocabulary. The secrecy, frantic calls to find last-minute care, and the frustration and fear that grows as you try to do it all without letting your employer see you sweat — or more likely, cry. As caregivers, we can’t do it alone.
About Step Up, Speak Out!
Step Up, Speak Out! is an outreach event targeted to engage caregivers to persons with dementia. This is an open forum set to encourage conversations through the sharing of experiences and expert discussions. Each event is centred around a key topic in the journey of caring.
Caregivers are often left to deal with the stigma that dementia carries. They feel isolated because their peers do not understand what they are going through and they carry the guilt when they have to choose between growing up and find their ‘self’ vs. having to shoulder the responsibilities of caring for their loved one.
They are just starting their own lives, juggling work, school, social lives, and starting a family, when they are faced with the task of having to take care for a loved one with dementia. It is important that we as a community understand the experience of these individuals and offer support services that are catered for the different age groups.
This Event is For Anyone Who:
- Have questions about dementia and interested in finding out what the impact is on caregivers?
- Want to know how to support caregivers at work. How can employers or fellow colleagues help support caregivers at the work place?
- Want to find a space of identification among other caregivers. Are you a caregiver? Hear tips on wellbeing and how you can balance the responsibilities of working and caring for your loved one.
